All About My First (Rib) Tattoo
This is not only my very first tattoo but it’s also a tattoo on the ribs, which is considered as most painful… In this blogpost I’ll talk about the meaning of the quote, my pain experience and aftercare.
Why this quote?
When I was about twelve years old I was always on Tumblr.com, I remember scrolling through my dashboard one day and coming across this quote. “Sunshine all the time makes a desert”, when the meaning of the quote hit me I was so impressed by it! It basically means that if you have “rain” (a hard time in your life), it will make you grow and a better person. So the “desert” stands for a unfulfilled life, and the “sunshine” stands for positive things that happen in your life.
This quote was so powerful to me that I thought of it every time something bad happened. Now I’m 20 years old and it’s been eight years since I’ve found that quote, I decided to make it mine and get it tattooed on my ribs.
Why a tattoo on your ribs?
I’ve doubted for a long time whether I’d get it on my arm, leg or ribs. I’ve always thought that quote’s on the ribs are beautiful, but because of the pain I tried to think of an other spot that would be nice. But none of them compared to it, I knew it was going to be very painful to get a tattoo on your ribs but I thought that it was going to be worth it.
Where did you get it done?
This tattoo artist is actually a very loved one in the Netherlands, his name is Brian and this is his instagram account. I’ve always thought of him as a very talented artist who can make the straightest lines and dopest designs. I already knew for a long time that when I was going to get my first tattoo, I wanted him to be the one to apply it.
Did it hurt?
Before I went there I searched for experiences online, and let me tell you something, don’t ever do that! The horror stories made me so scared to go and get my tattoo, but it was actually not that bad at all!! It just feels as if someone scrapes at your skin with a sharp object. I also expected to feel the pain a lot deeper, I’ve read that some people felt it in their bones too. But this wasn’t true, at least not for me.
Of course it won’t feel pleasant, and it depends on your pain range and the kind of tattoo that you’re getting. If you have something that’s going to take longer or with a lot of shadows, then yeah, that’s going to hurt more… But I thought it was just a little uncomfortable.
What was your healing proces like?
When you just got your tattoo it will feel soar afterwards for about a day. I was also shocked by the amount of ink that came off when I first washed it after a couple of hours. But don’t worry, that’s normal. You need to rub some kind of special salve on it three times a day and after a couple of day’s you’ll get crusts on your tattoo and it’s important to only touch it when you’ve washed your hands with anti-bacterial soap and to not scratch when it itches!
My tattoo was healed after about three weeks, but I kept rubbing salve on it for about a month, just to be sure.
And that was about it! If you have any questions or if you want to share your experience with tattoo’s, feel free to comment down below!
